"THE POETRY OF THE ABSTRACT LANDSCAPE poses the question of the existence of boundaries, of depth and distance of observation, leaving the mind open and leaving other worlds and escape landscapes as objects of desire. The artist’s mind shapes, sets the scene and the shot, recognizes and singles out shapes, while the photo freezes them in pure visual essence. The structures and shapes surface now clear, now blurring into an unfamiliar landscape flooded with emotions that are stopped in their tracks by the deceptive power of the photograph. In her escape landscapes Maja Strgar Kurečić cultivates escapism as a principle of life in which the feeling of wonder inspires contemplation on one’s own place in time and space. "

“In her Escape Landscapes, Maja Strgar Kurečić cultivates escapism as a principle of life in which the feeling of wonder inspires contemplation on one’s own place in time and space. Escape Landscapes exist beyond any particular time-space rules. Each photograph is an uncharted world. A particular picture is located within a virtual map that helps us on our inner journey between a possible memory and place. The undetermined longitudes and latitudes are scattered in different places whose existence is but a mere scribble on a far-off horizon of dreams.”
