A Story of Water and Ice
"A STORY OF WATER AND ICE by Maja Strgar Kurečić stems from the observation of changing forms and a fascination with geometric structures. Its poetics of seeing focuses on isolating frames in which, while searching for inner peace among the rippled crystals of ice, the artist captures subtle disturbances and the finely balanced energy of water as it melts and releases its temporary solid state.
In the creative process, the artist explores randomly formed ice structures, adding various pigments, salt, liquids, and spices. The forces that alter the physical appearance of water are, however, less important to her than intuition and perception. This artistic play with water and ice crystals becomes an exploration of visual experience and form within macro photography.
A Story of Water and Ice is a story of the lifeblood of our planet and of the current flowing within us—of the delicate balance between life and survival, which Maja Strgar Kurečić has successfully suspended within a glass bowl through structure, form, and photographic framing. Fascinated and inspired by water’s surprising forms and by the qualities that make it the elixir of life, she reveals it as the element through which we are all interconnected.
